چکیده
9 T estoration of the atrophied edentulous maxilla poses great dilemma to the oral and maxillofacial surgeon nd restorative dentist. Conventional removable denure prostheses are adequate for some individuals; but mproved technology in dental implantology has led any to request alternative approaches with imlants. Patients with adequate maxillary bone are deal candidates for implants, but are the exception. atients with moderate to severe atrophy challenge he surgeon to discover alternative ways to use existng bone or resort to augmenting the patient with utogenous or alloplastic bone materials. Many proedures have been suggested for these atrophied axillae before implant placement, which include Le ort I maxillary downfracture, onlay bone grafts, nd maxillary sinus graft procedures, including loal and distal harvesting. Some of these treatment ptions entail multiple surgical interventions, varying uccess rates, restriction of denture wear throughout long transitional period, increased surgical fees, and erhaps costly hospitalization. Brånemark first used the zygoma implant as a major reakthrough in the treatment of maxillary atrohy. The implant, a titanium endosseal threaded mplant ranging in length from 30 to 52.5 mm, is laced in stable cortical maxillary buttress bone. The mplant has a built-in 45° angled platform lending to deal ridge positioning. The placement of 2 zygoma mplants and 4 anterior maxillary implants provides

Restoration of the edentulous maxilla using extrasinus zygomatic implants combined with anterior conventional implants: a retrospective study.
PURPOSE To report on the clinical outcome of 150 extrasinus zygomatic implants placed lateral to the maxillary sinus and combined with conventional implants in the anterior maxilla for the implant-supported rehabilitation of the edentulous maxilla. MATERIALS AND METHODS All patients included in this study presented with completely or partially edentulous maxillae with any remaining teeth indi...
متن کاملComplications of Zygomatic Implants: Our Clinical Experience with 4 Cases.
Zygomatic implants have been used for rehabilitation of the edentulous atrophic maxilla as an alternative to bone grafting for almost two decades resulting in satisfactory clinical outcomes. However, the patients with edentulous atrophic maxilla treated using this technique may present serious complications that could put the prosthetic restoration at risk. Four cases are reported in this paper...

PURPOSE A retrospective study was performed to evaluate the feasibility of simultaneous use of immediately loaded zygomatic and mandibular implants for full maxillomandibular restoration. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 40 zygomatic and 112 conventional implants were placed in 19 edentulous and partially edentulous patients and restored with full-arch acrylic resin prostheses within 3 hours ...
متن کاملRehabilitation of a patient with cleft lip and palate with an extremely edentulous atrophied posterior maxilla using zygomatic implants: case report.
OBJECTIVE This case report describes the clinical and surgical management of a patient with a unilateral alveolar cleft and associated extremely atrophied totally edentulous maxilla. METHOD Two zygomatic implants and four endosseous oral implants were placed under general anesthesia in a compromised maxilla to rehabilitate a 33-year-old patient with cleft lip and palate. The two specially des...
متن کاملRehabilitation with zygomatic implants: a treatment option for the atrophic edentulous maxilla--9-year follow-up.
This article reports the 9-year clinical outcome of the two-stage surgical rehabilitation of a severely atrophic edentulous maxilla with a metal-resin fixed denture supported by implants anchored in the zygomatic bone and the maxilla. After clinical and radiographic examination, zygomatic implants were inserted bilaterally and four standard implants were placed in the anterior region of the max...
متن کاملA prospective clinical study on titanium implants in the zygomatic arch for prosthetic rehabilitation of the atrophic edentulous maxilla with a follow-up of 6 months to 5 years.
BACKGROUND Prosthetic rehabilitation with implant-supported prostheses in the atrophic edentulous maxilla often requires a bone augmentation procedure to enable implant placement and integration. However, a rigid anchorage can also be achieved by using so-called zygomatic implants placed in the zygomatic arch in combination with regular implants placed in residual bone. PURPOSE The aim of the...
